A year of growth for our youth, housing, & health organizing. Donate!
Friends,
We hope that you are finishing 2022 and these holidays with the hope and calm that we all need.
We’re reaching out a couple more times this year to make one last ask of you. 2022 has been a year of steady growth for STOP, and for our Black, low-income and working-class community. As we close out this year and look to next, will you contribute to this with a donation?
2022 highlights:
In January, we hired our first-ever restorative-justice coordinator, member Anna Durr, to grow our work for truly safe, police-free schools like Hyde Park Academy High School.
In July, we landed a victory six years in the making with our Community Benefits Agreement coalition: We got the City to set aside land will become at least 157 apartments affordable for those most likely to be displaced from Woodlawn. This is among recent years’ most significant housing wins in fights against gentrification, for instance joining the 100 affordable apartments won in 2020 in Logan Square.
And just last month, we overwhelmingly won the referendum for which our mental-health coalition had been knocking on doors for months. Well over 90% of voters in our ward, the 6th ward we have been expanding to, and also the 33rd ward voted that the City ought to re-open its closed clinics and use them for police-free mental-health emergency response.
YOU can help us finish this year strong and start next year stronger still! Donate at STOPchicago.org/donate or make a check to “Southside Together Organizing for Power” at 602 E 61st St, Chicago, IL 60637. We are 501c3 and donations are tax-deductible as allowed by law.
Thank you for being part of our growth this year. And blessings for these final days of 2022!
