Meet Savannah Brown, our new housing organizer!
This month we welcome Savannah Brown to STOP’s full-time staff. She’ll focus on organizing tenants and their tenant associations at subsidized complexes.
Meet her via her intro below! And you can contact her via our staff page: stopchicago.org/staffboard
Hello, community! My name is Savannah Brown and I am STOP's newest Housing Organizer. Born and raised on the Northside of Chicago, I am a big sister to 5, a believer in people power, and a huge dreamer.
I first got involved with STOP through Black Youth Project 100 (BYP100)'s participation in the CBA coalition. From the intergenerational participation to the town halls, I was hooked. This past year, I joined the organizing world, running, tapping in wherever hands were needed. Through a remote term with Public Allies, I received training in restorative justice and circle keeping. This practice follows me into every space I now enter and roots me in abolition.
Though I am new to the housing world, I am eager to learn! By affirming the humanity of us all, I look forward to co-creating an inclusive future shaped by Black and Brown people. I seek to do so by providing spaces for folks typically unheard, allowing for their experiences to be shared and uplifted. I'm ready to give our opposition hell until they SEE us and uphold our right to live. Let's do it together.
