Victory: U of C to Raise the Age of Children's Trauma Center

After 4 years of struggle FLY and the Trauma Care Coalition has won a major victory: The University of Chicago Children's Hospital will raise the age limit of their children's trauma center from 15 up to 18! This victory is for Damian and all the young people who fought so hard to make this possible. FLY, KOCO and SHE, NNU, Kenwood Church and University Church and all our allies - have shown what is possible when we come together, when we fight: we win!

This victory also exposes what we have long known: the University of Chicago has the capacity to expand access to trauma care.

Today the University of Chicago will submit their proposal to the Obama Library Foundation. In it there will be no mention that they continue to ignore the mostly young black men (18 and older) who are dying at their doors.

We cannot let this moment pass. We must use our voices to let the world and President Obama know that the University of Chicago can do so much more to show that they value black life.

For starters Dean Polonsky should agree to meet with our coalition. He can raise the age limit of the pediatric trauma center further: up to 24. They can also bring an adult trauma center to the south side.

We are encouraged by our victory. We will continue to fight stronger, until the University's actions show that to them ALL #blacklivesmatter.

NO #Traumacenternow NO Library!
