Help us get out and build power this summer - donate!
Hello community!
Summer is here, and after two years of virtual organizing, we can’t wait to get back to knocking on doors and building people-power in-person!
We write today to ask you to donate today, so we can hit the streets.
Our youth members are busy organizing to replace the one remaining police officer at their neighborhood high school with an alternative like restorative-justice. And thanks to a restorative-justice coordinator we just hired – Anna Durr – we’re training a new generation of students in not only community organizing but in restorative justice. This summer, our six-week organizing training will support youth in canvassing their community to build support for investments in truly safe schools.
Meanwhile our mental-health members are busy organizing, to re-open public mental-health clinics, and to replace police with clinicians in responding to mental-health emergencies. This summer, our members will canvass to expand our base and movement into new neighborhoods, towards City-wide mental-health investments.
And, our housing members are busy organizing to secure City-owned vacant land for affordable housing. This spring the City committed to setting aside 13 lots near the Obama Center, for developments that include 100 apartments for those most at risk of displacement from Woodlawn; wneed so much more land and affordable development. This summer, our tenant and “CBA” leaders will be canvassing to build support across renters and home-owners.
Can you make a monthly donation of $10, $20, or $30? Your contributions sustain our team – staff, leaders, program participants – all summer and through the year! (To increase a monthly donation you’re already making, contact us!)
Or can you make a one-time donation of $50, $100, or $200? Your contribution provides the flyers, phones, and transportation we need to reach our community.
Or you can become a dues-paying STOP member by donating as little as $5/month! By all chipping in, we make good on our mission as Southside Together Organizing for Power: “To advance economic and social human rights by organizing and developing leadership among people most affected by economic and racial oppression.”
Make your donation at stopchicago.org/donate - be sure to choose monthly or one-time. Or donate via check to “Southside Together Organizing for Power” at 602 E 61st St, Chicago, IL 60637.
Thank you for being part of us. Together, we can get out and build the power we need.
In solidarity,
The STOP family
